Keynote Speaker - Hugh Wallace

Hugh Wallace is one of Irelands leading Architect and TV presenters. He is well known from his work on RTE’s Great House Revival, Home of the Year and My Bungalow Bliss TV shows. Hugh will use this keynote address to give great examples of what people can and have done in Irish rural houses. Through his experience and knowledge, he will bring his own ideas on the opportunities and solutions for a sustainable and enjoyable rural Irish housing strategy. This will have a focus on grants, policy, incentives, planning directives among others.

Lisa Carolan, Architect & Micro-Builder, Original Irish Home

Lisa is a hands-on architect with a passion for Irelands cottages and vernacular buildings and specialises in renovations, conservation and new builds in rural Ireland. The talk and questions will help anyone looking at buying or renovating a vacant or derelict property. Lisa will go through the checklist for building surveys, planning, designing and practical nuggets of information for anyone about to embark on this type of rural home journey.

Our panelists take us on a practical journey through their builds as they plan and build their forever homes utilising derelict or vacant properties. You might know some of their stories through social media or TV, but now we get help as we get behind the glamor shots and the slow-mo panning screens to get the ‘warts and all’ tales to help attendees avoid mistakes, know the must-haves and be aware of the pitfalls on the building journey.
